Learning Cultures in Reception

We have a whole school approach to learning cultures at St. James’. These have been adapted to suit the needs of our children in Reception. Over the year, we will use several of the Kagan structures during our carpet time. We will also develop our thinking skills using De Bono’s thinking hats. The children are constantly encouraged to develop skills to support their learning through the 5 R’s – responsibility, reflectiveness, resourcefulness, resilience and readiness. We have five cute characters to help us with this! The children are constantly encouraged to ‘have a try on their own first’, ‘try again, don’t give up’, ‘show they are ready to listen’ and to ‘choose it – use it- put it away!’
