Curriculum Overview

At St James’, we aim to provide a curriculum which will equip children with a love of learning and the skills required to become lifelong learners. We strive to provide them with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for life in the twenty-first century. The learning opportunities provided for the children and the teaching styles that are used are constantly under review. We have developed units of work that cross the boundaries of subject areas and focus on the development of skills and supporting knowledge, which can then be used and applied in all areas of life and learning. These all meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum (2014). and have been suggested by the Local Authority. We believe that learning should be exciting, stimulating, challenging and, above all, fun! If you would like to find out more about the curriculum we follow in school then please contact the office to make an appointment with Miss Brady or Mr Lloyd.

We aim for our children to be happy, confident, productive citizens with the capacity to contribute to and benefit from the society in which they live. The curriculum is a means by which we can provide our children with the cultural capital they require to achieve those ends. In studying the curriculum our pupils will acquire valuable social skills and positive attitudes to learning necessary for effective personal development.
