Eco Council

The School Eco Council is made of children from Year 2 – 6 who care about the school and the wider environment. The children meet regularly and discuss what they would like to see happen in school and work together to promote and develop sustainability throughout our school so we can all be a little more eco-friendly. Over the course of the year we will lead campaigns in the school to avoid waste, encourage recycling and save resources such as water and electricity. Another role of the Eco Council is to raise awareness within the school community of the ongoing climate crisis and the importance of looking after our environment.

Our Green Flag

This year we have registered with Eco-Schools to earn our green flag! We aim to develops pupils’ skills, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and creates financial savings for schools to use on much more exciting learning resources.

Planting in the local community with Civic Pride!

The Eco Council members in Year 4, 5 & 6 were recently invited to help the volunteers of the local community group ‘Civic Pride’ to plant the areas surrounding our school.  They had a lesson in how to prepare the beds and handle the new plants.  Well done Eco Council members!

St James’ Eco Council have spent time planting trees around the school grounds.  A Silver Birch, A Cherry Tree and a Hawthorne, kindly donated to school as part of the Bishops Harvest Appeal.

The Eco council have been busy spending their playtime planting seeds in the flower beds to attract bees and butterflies! What a dedicated team!
