In year 1 we will be trying to help the children to improve their reading this year, developing their phonics so that they become confident, independent readers.
We follow the read write inc. phonics in school. Please find the link below to the read write inc. website. Here you can watch clips that explain phonics, the phonics screening test in Year 1 and top tips for reading with your child.
This year we are all forgiveness value detectives in Year 1.
If we forgive someone, someone forgives us or we see forgiveness in action then we can write it in our class values detective book.

This year is St James’ ‘Year of Reading’! The importance and benefits of reading from a young age cannot be underestimated – children are sent home with new reading books each week, but if you would like further inspiration regarding some inspiring children’s authors please ask. I would be more than happy to help!
